The Northern Ireland hotel group behind the Galgorm Spa and Golf Resort has continued its acquisition streak with the “multimillion” pound purchase of the Crawfordsburn Inn.
Galgorm Collection refrained from stating the exact price of the deal for the four-star hostelry in the County Down town of the same but said it plans to invest £1 million in another extension for the property.
It said all existing members of staff will be retained as part of the deal as the 33-bedroom hotel prepares to reopen once lockdown restrictions have been lifted in Northern Ireland.
The purchase marks the latest in the Galgorm portfolio and follows its purchase and refurbishment of the Templeton Inn in Templepatrick last year, now known as The Rabbit, which is due to open this June. As well as the Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort, it also operates Fratelli’s restaurant and Café Parisien in Belfast and the Castle Kitchen & Bar at Galgorm Castle Golf Club in Ballymena.
“With an initial strategic investment of £1 million, we are planning to build upon the hotel’s award-winning credentials and extend the site to incorporate a boutique spa with infinity pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, private cabanas and relax space,” Colin Johnston, Galgorm Collection Managing Director, said. “We’re thrilled to add The Old Inn and its fantastic team to our collection and take this iconic property forward into a new era for tourism and hospitality.”
“We are confident we will be in a position to reopen the restaurant and bar mid-to-late May, based on the easing of Government restrictions. Reservations for future stays can be made from 19th April and we look forward to safely welcoming guests back to enjoy a fantastic stay”, added Colin.
With a history dating back to 1614 and links to the world-famous local author C.S. Lewis, the thatched-roof Crawfordsburn Inn has become one of the country’s top hotels, having received AA Hotel of the Year in 2017/18 award after a series of enhancements and extensions.
It occupies a 1.5-acre site in the heart of Crawfordsburn village and adjacent to Crawfordsburn Country Park.
